Interiors: Mel George and Louise Krampien

In The Poetics of Space, Gaston Bachelard proposes that rooms, the spaces we inhabit, reflect inner rooms; our conscious and subconscious selves. George and Krampien map these interiors, using their subjective experiences to communicate broader, universal feelings of longing, self-doubt, dislocation, self-examination, and anxiety.
Interactive and learning experiences for this exhibition included a “wonder wall” inviting visitors to respond to four questions by posting sticky notes. An interactive portrait table offering kilnformed glass shapes with directive to create a portrait, and a touching table allowing visitors to ask specific “how is it made?” questions. Including the artist video made motion visible from outside the space, drawing visitors in. A family activity guide invited visitors of all ages to explore, learn, and make.
